That time of year - Saturday, January 21, 2012 4:16 PM ( #1 )
Maybe it's the snow, the cold, whatever.  Does anyone else find themselves itching to go camping this time of year?  I'm trying to find some land around me that I can do some winter camping in.  I have areas I love but it's hard when you have a 6 hour drive to get to your favorite areas.
I really start craving it more this time of year.  Am I alone or does everyone want to be out camping now?

Man, I feel like spending a week or two in the mountains myself.

That's why I retired to 29 acres of heavily wooded hill top in Arkansas.  To go winter camping I just have to walk outside and put up my teepee.  And if it gets too damn cold (never has) I just walk back inside.

I can't tell you how much I miss living in the country.  Used to walk outside, or go to my tutors 60 acres, or if I really wanted take a quick drive to great waterfalls and mountains.  Now not so lucky.

the only time i lived in the wood s as an adult  was when i lived in hawaii: where we lived was so unpopulated that we never ever locked the door and even left it completely open once. it was on the big island up the road from Hilo about 15 miles uphill and the to the left for a couple of miles. now that was an isolated place to live in for a guy born and raiaed in Southern Cal.

Oh Yeah. I love winter camping. Just won't have a chance this year - too busy with work and such, but I probably need it more than ever.

collegue of mine is looking at upgrading to 90 acres half of which is farm and half wooded.  I'll be helping him set up a nature trail so am hoping to spend some winter weekends out there.

I would like to go camping and survival in the mountings around my city but there are -6 celsius and 2 meters of snow, I'm afraid is beyond my limits. Remember always know your limits!!!

I went winter camping over the weekend. It wasn't to bad considering I was the minimalist in the group who slept in 2 mediocre wool blankets and an emergency blanket during the -5 weather at night. The next day me and my buddy had to call it quits since our other buddy wasnt pulling his weight and we got hit by a blizzard hardcore.

rough when someone in the group doesn't pull there weight.  We've had such a pathetic winter on the East coast this year that winter camping is almost a joke right now.  Everythign is just wet and muddy, no snow and real cold.  Still looking forward to getting back out there.
