knife lanyards - Sunday, September 24, 2017 12:49 AM ( #1 )
I always put a paracord lanyard on any EDC folder (and most fixed blades but they are different). I weave these myself

and a new one I have learned just recently, the 'mummy skull' lanyard (without 'shoulders')

and with shoulders

I will be putting the mummy lanyard on all pocket knives now, as I really like it.

Those are nice.
The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.

to be honest they are real easy to weave (most are variants of the cobra weave or king cobra weave and the diamond knot), the skulls etc are all available off ebay. There are plenty of tutorials on how to weave them on YouTube and that's where I learned how to weave them all.

Those are cool. How long does it take you to make them?

won't let me edit my previous post so back to back post, I buy the skulls off Ebay, as well as the paracord (Cost is usually about AUD$6 for 100', heaps of colours available. You can get mummy skull lanyards already weaved off Ebay, but not as satisfying or customized to fit exactly to your knife.

The ones you make are nice. My problem when trying to make them is. My fingers do not always work very well. IE: I am so clumsy I'm lucky I can tie my own boots. LOL

many lanyards are available on Ebay for somewhat reasonable pricing, it's just they won't be custom fitted to your knife. The biggest problem I have with buying generic lanyards from Ebay is they tend to be too long and dangle too far down, I make mine so they hang about as far as the pocket clip goes down to, and use the pocket clip as a gauge for the lanyards length.

Just put in "knife lanyard" in Ebay and you will find a heap of them.

I have found they help to deploy the knife, especially if the knife is deep carry. You simply tug on the lanyard and the knife falls into your hand.

Re:knife lanyards - Wednesday, January 03, 2018 10:55 PM ( #15 )
here's a few pics of my higher end knives and their lanyards, they range from cobra weave finished with a bead and diamond knot to mummy skull lanyards. The far right is a standard one sans bead and how I used to do them

and close ups

I try to match the lanyard to the knife, and for the most part I am successful. and this is my latest on fitted to my Reate Horizon D. I really like the way it turned out and took a few tries before getting to this final 'finished' lanyard.

here are the tutorials for the various knots/weaves

cobra weave (probably the most versatile knot I use, and the most used by me)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sLV7rw76UP0

diamond finishing knot (it took me a bit to work this out but I eventually got it)

mummy

all skulls and beads are bought off Ebay, I have a plethora of them now.

my pleasure mate.

I suggest getting 100' of black paracord (about AUD$7 posted) and start practicing. Don't worry about beads until you get the knots down pat.

here's a snake knot (a new one I have learned, nice knot but I am still trying to adapt it to my lanyards)
