Several weeks ago, I purchased a Sure Strike Star (medium) at a Marksmanship Camp (highly recommended if you have kids, check it out here
). I also purchased a really nice throwing knife target in the form of a two-foot diameter, 7 inch thick tree slice (and for only 10 bucks, a steal).
Anyway, I got home and was throwing the star into the target. After about ten throws, one of the tips snapped clean off. I thought that was odd. I kept throwing it, and another tip snapped off. Since I am familiar with Cold Steel's EXCELLENT quality, I knew something had to be off with this one (I suspect something with the heat treatment). I contacted CS by email, and received a response within three days. They asked for pictures of the damage, so I sent them. They replied that yes, it was a defect, and yes, they would replace it, free of charge. So, I sent them my address. However, about a week later, nothing had arrived. So, I sent another email, and did not receive a response.
Finally, I decided to call. The phone was answered by a very helpful, articulate young man. He told me that they thought they had already sent the replacement. Regardless, he said he would put another in the mail the next day. Three days later, I had my new star in hand. After throwing it several times, the tips are still intact (and for what it's worth, I continued throwing the original star, and the two remaining tips are still going strong.)
Moral of the story is what many have reiterated over time: Cold Steel has excellent customer service, IF you make sure at some point to CALL.
