Cold Steel's katana - Monday, January 28, 2013 12:25 AM ( #1 )
Hey, guys!

I've been taking a serious look at Cold Steel's swords and have been considering one of their three katana series. Does anybody here own one of the blades in these series? I'm curious about how they handle, and I'd also like to know if they can be disassembled for maintenance.

Their katana's are off balanced like all of their swords. People feel they are being drawn into the cut during drawing cuts. They don't handle as well as more expensive models, but by being off balanced it gives the sword more cutting power. Like most katana's on the market they can be easily taken apart with a simple cleaning kit. But don't take it apart often, or you will need to replace the handle.

Why would I need to replace the handle, and is this true of all katana?

According to the Point of Balance measurements taken by kultofathena.com, the Dragonfly Katana should have the best balance.

Personally I like the Warrior Katana the best, that being the one that I own. It's great if you're going to be doing backyard cutting, and I'm sure it would serve admirably for defense of home and hearth. I'm no sword-master, but I think it's balanced pretty well for how heavy the weapon is. That being said, I've not handled a higher quality katana than this. It's built like a tank.
Feel free to correct me on anything that i have said.
