Movies YOU think are awesome that have an edged weapon in them... - Thursday, August 11, 2011 4:24 PM ( #1 )
these are not necessarily going to be on anyones top ten AFI, Oscar nominated movies, these are the ones you watch, again and again.

Fearsome Five in no order:

-The Hunted
-Windtalkers (the scene where the Japanese are all gung ho on the codebreaker compound, bowie fighting!)
-Battle LA (where the alien is getting probed)
-The Edge
-Inglorius Bastards
Krav Maga is our friend.
Currently rocking a AUS8a SRK for Hikes around SoCal.

The Expendables - for all the different knives used, and the gratuitous Cold Steel Espada appearance!

The Hunted - Cool knife fighting scenes and the concept of making your own knife when needed.

Rambo - The fight seen with all the Burmese soldier's near the end where he makes short work of them with the Hibben machete.

Predator - even with Arnie's cheesy one liner, "Stick around", you have to appreciate the throwing of the Jack Crain machete knife pinning the guy to the pole, and when Billy slow draws the same knife to face off against the Predator. You sometimes have to appreciate a knife that's long enough that it takes a minute to pull from the sheath. LOL!

Young Guns 2 - Chavez with his knife skills and the bowie in his arm.

The Magnificent Seven - Where Coburn wins with a knife at a gun fight.

The Punisher - Again wins with a knife at a gun fight, Harry Heck scene, and the end scene, you just gotta love how he uses the knives and some of the places he sticks them. I mean who pins someone's hand to their a$$ with a knife and then gives them lockjaw with another. LOL!

I know these are the some of the cheesy hollywood flicks, but they do break out the cool blades!

The Last of the Mohicans and The Patriot.

Gotta give you props for these 2 movies, nice choices! I love the hawk and blade fighting concepts in them.

Last night I saw "Blood: The Last Vampire" movie, not the anime. It had some exciting sword action.

I second Braveheart, for the axe that Hamish wields, and the various weapons that William Wallace is shown using. I also enjoyed Highlander, even though it is a bit outlandish.

Highlander is more than a bit outlandish, but that's part of the fun. I hear they're doing a remake, and I just don't see how they're going to recapture the magic of a frenchman playing a Scot, and a Scot playing an Egyptian pretending to be Spanish. As far as winning gunfights with knives, a very young James Caan holds his own with John Wayne and Robert Mitchum by doing the same thing in El Dorado.
4" Zytel Ti-Lite, Long Hunter, 18" Barong Machete, Bowie Bushman, 3" Clip Point Voyager, SK-5 black Trailmaster, City Stick, Trail Boss, Trail Hawk, Special Forces Shovel, 36" Sjambok, CAT Tanto, and a few Delta Darts... I think that's it so far.  A good start, with a long way to go.

Let's not forget "The Duellists" by Ridley Scott, one of the (if not THE) greatest swordplay movies ever made,

you can watch the entire movie for free on youtube :)

Thought this could use an update. Added to my list of favorite movies that I watch over and over, that include blades. Blade, for obvious reasons, while I'm not a fan of Wesley Snipes, I am a fan of Blade's toys. The Expendables 2, Gunner is hilarious with his Bowie knife/sword. The Grey, with Liam Neeson, without their knives, those guys wouldn't have made it far.

The most unforgettable movie of that type is, for me, "The Naked Prey" with Cornel Wilde.  Fantastic movie, -all- chase scenes.   I'm going to see if it's on Netflix right now.   Later   Nuts, Netflix doesn't have it.  Anyone know where I can find it, preferably free.

I just watched it on Amazon streaming and it's even better than I remembered.  Lots of very nice spears and knives in it which I didn't know enough about to appreciate the last time I saw it many moons ago.  Highly recommended.

OK, I'm breaking the rules but "Last Man Standing" with Bruce Willis and his two 1911's is one of my favorite movies.

Most of the crap made by Hollywood effeminates these days just ain't for me.

Very few "real men" left in Hollywood.

Yes, I liked that movie as well. Pierce's character sure does use that knife a lot too.
