A New Power Source for an Ancient Weapon - Wednesday, September 28, 2011 12:44 AM
I don't know if this is where this post belongs or not, but it is a CS Blowgun extension barrel conversion, so.

Also, I apologize for the pics of the cheaper .40 cal, but there just here to show where my idea had originally came from.

Well several years back I was practicing quite often with my blowguns and I had gotten a bad cold and my lungs couldn't handle the practice without excessive coughing, so I was looking at the aluminum paintball barrel plugs at work and I realized, If I drilled one out precisely I could press a blogun in it and Vuala. So, I took the blowgun barrel, loaded a dart in it and put the barrel plug in the end of a paintball gun and there you have it. A high power blowgun. I was getting an average of 290 to 300 fps through the chrono.

So, when CS came out with the .625 pro models, I thought perfect, instead of a barrel plug conversion, I could actually replace the paintball barrel with the CS Blowgun barrel. So, I took my 2 foot extension and my SL-68 model paintball gun, chosen for the compression clamping of the barrel instead of the threaded type, and the pump action for safety purposes, so as not to shoot a dart through my finger while loading it, and a better High Power Blowgun was born. I did some custom valve work on this one, and unfortunately it won't shoot paintballs without shredding them anymore, but the plus side is I'm getting 440 to 460 fps with a Spear point dart. I fired one at my dart board and it went through the dart board, the wooden case it's hanging in, and it stuck about a half inch into the drywall the dart board is hanging on. Whoops!

This thing is awesome, but I don't like the barrel loading, so I have ordered another CS Blowgun and I'm going to start work on a bolt action, breech fed barrel. I just have to get some time to fire up the Smitty and I can get this thing together. Should be fun! LOL!!!

I know it's overkill, but this thing fires alot farther, and with more power than the conventional way. I guess I've just seen 1 too many episodes of Home Improvement! More Power!!! Argh Argh Argh!!! LOL!!!

So, If your lungs can't handle the normal way of shooting a CS Blowgun, just thought some of you might appreciate an alternative power source.
I've tried the CO2, blowgun adapter kits, and those just suck compared to this thing.

Sweet crap! I want one! Those speeds you got are just messed up. You took it from squirrel slayer to something that could down a freaking raccoon. You of course know the next step, rig the darts with small charges so they go into their target then explode.

Man that's impressive!  I can -never- look at any kind of weapon, tool, or machine without wanting to customize it or "improve" it.
I love seeing some of the contraptions that others have come up with.  I see that you suffer from the same disease.  Well done.
So far the only changes I have made to my blowguns are adding paintball magazines and laser sights.  Hmmm, 101 uses for CO2.

Thanks guys! And thanks to CS for making these pro grade models, so I could get some real power in a Blowdart, the .40's are ok, but the .625's hit real hard, I've had to make my own tips with this power though, If I shoot anything soft, the dart flies through it, and the cone flies off, and I just make new darts if I lose them.
You said it Gary, the wheels never stop turning with conversion idea's. Problem is, I need more time to complete the projects. I always seem to be in the middle of several projects and only finish one now and a again. No sooner than I'm working on one conversion it gives me idea's for another one or three. LOL!!!

Holly Cow !!
That looks awesome ChukaSifu ! way to take things to the extreme ! and once you work a breech loading system , you know what the next logical step is : a magazine fed repeater

Thanks Lemmesee!
Actually, I have been thinking about a mag fed design, but unfortunately unless I make it a rotating barrel concept, so far the mag feed designs I've come up with allow the darts to jam up due to the cone shape and thin wire dart. But on the upside, the New style stun darts work great since they are very symetrical at the cone and cross hatch section, they drop through the gravity fed mag nicely.

The rotating barrel mag isn't to bad of a concept, I took one of the .40 cal. paintball rotating mags and converted it, but when I did this, it looses alot of speed from the pressure drop at the attachment. I'll keep trying, something will come to me eventually.

"A New Power Source for an Ancient Weapon"
Wouldn't the power source be your mouth/ lungs? and if so, wouldn't a new power source be a different orifice capable of expelling gas?

hi all, new to this place. a frequenter of lefora blowgun forum n googled blowgun n found this place. speaking of Gas powered blowguns, i attached a rubber cork over barrel of my crosman 2250 CO2 air rifle that puts out average mid 500fps and attached that to end of my loaded blowgun and punched my nail dart so far into the fence post that the only pat of nail i can see is the nail head. this was a 10m. tell ya, it was fun:D

Perhaps a discarding Sabot on the front of the dart would help with the jamming problem and it -might- help with accuracy too.
Just a thought.

Neat idea....but why? All you are doing is turning a blowgun into an air rifle, and Beeman and Gamo already make outstanding ones (I have the Gamo DuoSport, with 2 interchangeable barrels, .22, and .17....1000+fps). They make darts for them, as well as hunting pellets.

It's a cool experiment, but I feel like it is similar to people taking a perfectly good slingshot and modifying it into a 'slingbow' to shoot arrows at a puny 150 fps. They make perfectly good traditional bows that shoot faster than 250fps (I make bows, too).

It does sound like fun, though......
