the one i have is like a 300 piece kit, it basically includes everything you have but just more of them. it all fits in a zip bag about 10X13x4.
i also stuffed two tubes of neosporin in there just for fun

Geeze!  I just finished packing it.  I am not going to unpack it now.  Of course mine is a car kit and far more extensive.  The one I have for carrying around I could unpack and list and picture for you.  I will do just that when the sun rises again on Indiana tomorrow.  fair enough?

Re:What's in your First Aid Kit? - Friday, July 17, 2009 2:32 PM ( #4 )
Well I guess that took longer than I wanted it to take... first a picture of the contents:

The Contents:
  • Israeli Emergency Bandage
  • Quik Clot Combat Gauze
  • Tweezers
  • Scissors
  • Cold Steel Mini Tac Kiridashi
  • 12 Hour Light Stick
  • Tribiotic Ointment Packets (3)
  • "Band Aids"
  • Small Bottle Hand Sanitizer
  • Small Signal Mirror
  • Safety Pins
  • Glucose Tabs
  • Small Bottle Tylenol
  • "Sensi-Wrap" Tape, the kind that only sticks to itself for wrapping sprains and such.
  • Small Roll of Regular Adhesive Dressing Tape
  • Ziplock Bag 1*
  • Ziplock Bag 2*
In the first Ziplock, Bag 1 we have:
  • Steri-strips/butterfly closures
  • Immodium Packets
  • Dipenhydramine Tablet packet
  • Insect Bite Wipes
  • 30 SPF Sunscreen Wipes
  • Cut and Scrape Cleaning Wipes
  • Glacier Gel & Mole Skin for blisters and abrasions
  • Water treatment tablets
  • 2 Nuun Electrolyte Rehydration Quick Dissolve Tablets (Enough for a half gallon)
Ziplock Bag 2 has:
  • Guaze Mops
  • Gauze 4x4 Dressings
  • Pouch of Povidone Iodine for cleaning out a wound
  • Irrigation Syringe
  • Ammonia Inhalant Crushers
Seems like a lot, but it isn't near as much as I have in the car "field" kit.  That is the one I am not willing to unpack just for the thread just now.  All of the above quite easily fits into a Molle compatible pouch that also fits onto a belt.  It isn't even all that heavy, I don't feel encumbered by it at all.  This is part of my BOB and is actually attached to the waist belt of it most of the time.  I take it with me to the range as well though the car kit is also with me then generally.  I put this ion my range bag in case someone else drives if I am meeting folks.  I am actually surprised at how few people carry ANY first aid supplies with them, let alone a decent kit.

I tuck the light stick in as I zip it up.

Thanks for the pics, looks like a good kit!

I carry mine in a ziplock bag inside my pack, everything except the roll of gauze, gloves, tape fit in a 4x5" Aloksak which can be carried in a pocket.

The Swisscard is there so I have scissors, tweezers, a magnifier a little LED light along with a pen and a straight pin.

I also carry water purification tabs, but I keep them with my "survival" kit.

Thanks!

I have a Swiss card in my wallet... I have even more water stuff in my "survival" kit.

This is just enough to make clean water for wounds and such should I need to... or maybe to start rehydration.

They are great, you can use them as a sling, a tourniquet if things are really bad and are easy to use with one hand.

They come in many sizes as well, everything from the really huge "Abdominal Wound" to the tiny, "Small" that would just about take care of a through and through 9mm hole in your arm or the like.  Since it isn't the BIG pack, I went with the medium sized one since it is pretty good for most everything that won't kill me instantly.  For what they do they are really reasonably priced and because f what they are, have no expiration date.  I think the mediums I have cost me $9.95 a piece.  Hard to beat that for all they do.

You guys should also consider a couple of small tubes of SUPER GLUE for cut wounds. I have been sliced before, and super glued my skin back together til I could get further medical attention. It works.

In my kit are anti-biotics (oral, ear and eye), sutures, assorted bandages, dressings, anti-diarhea pills, powder for upset stomach, thermometer, triple anti-biotic creme, anti-itch creme, scissors, tape, super glue..... etc etc

I have Krazy glue in there.  I have recently picked up some Dermabond to replace it, which is similar but much prefered for wounds than krazy glue which can produce dangerous amounts of heat when it cures and produces a toxins which can delay healing and damage skin.   You need to be careful even with the Demabond and other similar medical super glues....they are only for fresh, clean, small/straight/shallow cuts and for helping bandages hold to skin, they should not be used for deep, large, jagged cuts or any  that are not throughly clean.

All the normal stuff plus electrical tape. When used correctly its water proof and it will stick all day. I'm an electrician so i get a free supply at work.

Hey, I didin't notice tampons in anybodys list. I don't know how much the Israeli bandanges are but for major wounds you can't get much cheaper than a tampon pad. I carry 4 in mine, the U.S. miltary has a really good major wound bandage also, but they are really expensive. With a pad all you need to do is tie it on somehow.

Hey, I didin't notice tampons in anybodys list. .........
I've got three in mine. But it was somewhat annoying that the smallest pack I found was almost two dozen. Yet the cost was still only about $3, much cheaper than dedicated first aid pads of any decent size.

i would have never thought in a million years to put tampons in my first aid kit(me not being a woman and all i guess)

but i can see the logic in it. however, i will for sure not be rushing to the nearest feminine needs aisle to buy some

While I have thought of it, are they sterile?  I far prefer that the bandage I put on the wound I so carefully cleaned and disinfected is not the cause of the infection..  They would make fine swabs to take away excess blood however, not a good bandage IMO.  Tampons may be sterile but I am not as sure about the pads.  Of course, I don't spend much time in the feminine needs aisle either.

I think tampons gained a following in the military for 'plugging' bullet wounds, a task which they apparently perform very well.
I am pretty sure they have to be sterile for their intended use, to prevent toxic shock syndrome etc. Don't know about the pads, though I would guess the same.

I've heard that the inner pages of an unread newspaper are as good as sterile in an emergency. Condoms are also a good multi-use item, the uncoated kind.

Being a former EMT I have a lot of stuff and need a few more things.
1- Pair of Trama Shears
2- Clamps
1-Pr bandage shears
1- Spring loaded Center Punch
1- BP cuff
1-Litman Stethascope
1- O-2 Wrench
1-EMT Belt pouch
1- Snake Bite/ Sting kit
3 -Rolls of small Roller Gauze
3- Rolls of med and Lg Roller Gauze
1- Carlisile Bandage
1- Triangle sling
1- set of Finger Splints
12 -4x4 gauze pads
20- 2x2 gauze pads
4- sets of eye trama bandages
4- Maxi Pads ( for massive bleeding)
8- Butterfly Closers
2- tubes of Liquid Stitches
1- Tube of tripple antibiotic cream
4- packs of double antibiotic cream
2-sets of elastic bandages
If you have saftey pins in your First Aid gear toss them and use tape.  Pins can break or open and now you have another or a  puncture wound to treat.  Lose the pins. You don't want to place a Tampon in any wound except  a broken nose.  I don't know where the tampon in a bullet wound thing got started but it will do more harm then good because you are leaving fibers in the wound channel.  A large bandage with direct prussure is the thing to do.

Thanks for posting your kit Sharky!

I have a question about the snake bite kit....aren't these were now considered to do more harm than good?

If your pic is too big and you have photobucket or other free image hosting site, you can post it directly by cut and pasting the pic with the IMG tags, its a lot easier than trying to upload them to the forums...at least it was for me!

I'll try that thanks and with snake bite kits drawing out some of the poision cant hurt. You use the cups included in the kit and only the cup that fits around the wound.  Never cut anything. People like to cut a wound and "suck out the poision" No not with a kit.  It has a booklet that tells you how to use it the right way

As a boy scout this seems a little bit much, unless you will be gone, alone, for a while. Normally, we bring bandaids, antispetic, and a little bit of gauze. Some people bring pre-made kits that may vary in contents. Normally the leaders and first aid lodge at summer camp have extensive kits. I would include a water proof container, and some firestarting tools.

What exactly is a "Carlisle Bandage" as I am not familiar with these?

You also say you are missing some things?  What are you wanting to add?

Thanks Shark-Man!

well I found out what a Carlisle bandage is, pretty much what I have already in the Israeli bandages only a lot older design and soaked in sulfa drugs.  I think I have this one covered but I do wish Sharky would let us all know what those other things he wants to add yet to his kit would be.

A Carlisle Bandage is like the one the Troops in WWII had on thier pistol belts. They are easy to make too, just use a large maxi pad and roller gauze.

Here ya go Warty! I was having trouble uploading pics for you.
This link should help.    http://www.med-dept.com/carlisle.php

Yes the handy dandy do it your self suction kit.
get 1 Turkey Baster cut the tip off 2" up.
Then wrap in plastic wrap and put it in a zip lock bag. you have a suction device for mouth/face Trauma.  NEVER SUCTION ANY FARTHER THEN YOU CAN SEE!
Rubber gloves.  I always run out of them.
Peds and Adult Air Way kits.

Never use Ammonia Inhalant Crushers on females. they can cause Spontaneous Miscarriages. (on the outside chance she does not know she is pregnat)

Thank you for the added info too.  I only asked because you said what you did in your OP.

Thanks again!
