Two Handed Katana Machete Mod - Friday, September 24, 2010 6:30 PM ( #1 )
As FortyTwoBlades mentioned, the Two-Handed Katana Machete (I'll refer to it as the Katana from now on in this thread) begs for a simple handle modification. So, here it is.

I removed about 6" from the handle (simple with a hacksaw) and drilled a lanyard hole.  http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh187/JNieporte/001-79.jpg?t=1285379145

In-hand...

In all honesty, it works much better now, both as a machete and as a katana. There's still enough handle for a two-handed griop as well.

Awesome, dude! How does the shock feel when hitting heavy immobile stuff now? In its unmodified format it just bruises up my bottom hand whenever I actually hit something thicker than 1" in diameter.

It feels okay, but it's a lot better since I added a katana wrap (photos coming soon). It's actually very usable as a, uh, machete. I know you know what I mean.

With a katana wrap (OD green and foliage green 550 cord)...

The handle...

In hand, it's naturally thick, but I have large hands.

Hah--I have tiny mitts so I have a hard time gripping the top of the handle as-is. When I mod mine out I'm going to have to sand it down a bit. Can't wait to hear some reports on how it does in the field now!

IF you thin it down parallel to the blade you can only take off about a 1/4 inch then you hit  the tang.

the tang doesn't extend much beyond the last rivet.

Oh, has anyone actually drilled out the 2 rivets yet? I'm wondering if the entire handle will slip off if I remove the rivets?

LOL I didn't notice those nails. I was too distracted by everything in the background! They filming an episode of Hoarders at your hose that day JNieporte? LOL

I must admit though, your katana is way more awesome than mine!
