Tipi tarp tent - Thursday, July 14, 2011 8:53 AM ( #1 )
I have made a tipi tarp tent with help of my friends. I think it will serve me joust fine when autumn or winter cams. Nice fire in side a good cigar an a sip of whiskey. Hear are image of tipi and a design for it. Distances are in millimeters. On the same plan are dimensions for tipi and inner shirt. The tipi should be lifted from the ground for 5 centimeters and the inner skirt should be fasten to the ground to get chimney effect. (tipi can be used without inner shirt) The hole on the top should be at least 50 to 60 cm in diameter (not shown on drawing)
It is large enough four 3 to 4 people
Edges are sewn with a simple sewing machinestitching and strong thread. I have gave the line at the bottom and on the top to strengthen the edge and the points where hollow stokes are.
The top hole on my tipi is not big enough so I will have to make it bigger

That looks good.  When you enlarge the hole you can have a fire inside, right?

A very nice Tipi Juregolec, I know a guy who has one set up on some land he's building a house on and its on a little bigger scale but when I visit him and you go inside the tipi he will have a fire going in the winter of course and there's probably room for 5or6 people. A very comfortable set up. I think the american Indian's were definitely on to something good when they made there's. good looking Tipi guy.

I've always wanted to make a good one of these.  Got a descent wikiup once that had a similar shape and idea behind it.  I think the greatest part is that in summer insects tend to travel upward.  I've found they fly in, up and out with sitting arround to snack on you.

I don't know dude, I love camping with my wife

Yah, I just got back from a camping trip with my father.  Pretty cool to still get up in the mountains with 60 something year old Pop and have some father son time as adults.

Of course some loud obnoxious jerks ended up coming up the mountain to the same lake we were on.  Completely killed the wilderness piece for half the trip

Thats a shame @Fox that happened, I know some people can be just down rite rude when it comes to having a private camp, Ive had to load up and find another place a few times. I now go camp where the only people will be is flying way overhead in a jet.Of course I know that's not always practical but I come back a relaxed camper. Shame they ruined it for you and your dad, quality time spent with family is priceless.

Ya I was a bit annoyed with them.  We stopped because there was no-one there and it's an easy hike / canoe trip in.  Not too hard to get to.  As the weekend wore on another group showed up, camped on the far side of the lake from us, cool.  Then that group showed up, didn't matter where on the lake they were you could hear them.  We considered moving (I've done that also) but only had one more night and didn't feel like it.

It's hard to find spots on the East coast where no-one goes anymore.  Espescially if you want to be on water.  It was nice out west last summer, could get away from people easier.

I agree getting drunk making unnecessary noise in the woods is not what I was thinking and I hate people that do that. I posted smiles as joke (my be ones or twice in year I do look like this and I am not proud of my self next morning). When I go to the woods I take some cigars, small bottle of whiskey, and in the summer a bier or two. I really don't like people who come to the woods with cars and they bring every thing with them. And I do NEWER leave nothing in the woods that don't belong there.

Re:Tipi tarp tent - Tuesday, July 19, 2011 1:35 PM ( #17 )
Since I hike and/or canoe everything in I never bring liquor with me.  Too darn heavy.  For a five day trip my pack already weighed 30lbs no way I was adding booze to that.  Nothing wrong with time and fellowship with friends, and nothing wrong with that over a few good drinks (you can keep your cigars, never smoked a thing in my life, never plan to).  When people ruin the piece and relaxation of nature, well that's different.  When you are in a forever wild area and you start up a chain saw (no motors allowed) that's different.  When you decide you want to set off fire crackers at 2am well thats...
I feel bad if my dog barks once and it might disturb someone, I guess it's just different for different people.  I need to find places farther out, better yet I need to buy my own 100 acres in the mountains and post the land for me and my friends.  There's a dream.

That's why i quit going to reggaefest near here. Alot of people came unprepared and just wouldnt shut up. after having to drag yet another passed out drunk off my campsite i kinda gave up.
@juregolec- you bring the cigars i'll bring the whiskey.

you're right man, I went camping once and these guys next to me were making some suspicious sounds in their tent. i don't know what they were doing. But to each his own. I can't complain; I got an uncle who has got a "man friend".

I've never been inside a small teepee before. They look cozy and very practical. There's a European company that makes awesome teepees. I wish I could remember which company. I think they're in Denmark or somewhere up there. Oh, they're in Sweden, the company's called "tentipi". Their designs are awesome and worth it, IMO, if you can afford them.

I have used tarp PE180 (g/m2) because it is very lightweight   (tipi weighs around 3,5 kg.). Other materials like canvas are heavy and you need car or hors to transport it. And if you look at drawing and measure it is not so small
