Re:Inferno Pepper Spray-- SHU rating? - Monday, June 22, 2009 3:13 PM ( #62 )
Tyler, I'd like to know what is the Scoville Heat Units rating of the OC used in Inferno? Is that information available?

Would you happen to have a link to that? I couldn't find anything about it using the search function.

Thank you!

How do you buy it? Do you have to call and pay with credit card over phone? I am new to Inferno.

flaco, you have to buy it through the Arizona office.  1-866-599-5085 is their number.  i believe they require a $25 minimum purchase though.  i could be mistaken on that point.  you can call and order over the phone with a credit/debit card, or send them a check money order.  you can also use the Arizona Office Order Form if you wish to mail in your order.

I picked up some of the inert canisters. Definitely helps in determining effective range for targeting, as well as judging any wind effect.

Hey Mike how is it in the wind, when LT did the demo it seemed to be heavier (weight wise) spray. Just kinda curious I want the wife to start carrying some since she is out and about so much at work.

Been waiting for a little wind to see effects.  Got a chance yesterday before a rain storm. Considering this is a close range weapon and spray is not a mist, it will hold together fairly well within its effective range, though it disperses more at the farthest reach of range. Have not fired the "live" Inferno, but the inert spray (white) is visible enough for easy targeting.

Took some shots of my wife using the inert trainer. Definitely recommend having whoever will be using the Inferno to practice with trainer at least a couple times. Each shot was at the target that was hit in Pic #3. First and second shots were "walked" into target. Third was a direct hit.

Hey Mike just a suggestion on how your lady holds the can. I have found (and I think they are teaching this) if you use your thumb to activate the button instead of the fore finger you don't get a natural downward push to the can, and it is a more natural angle to hold, since you don't have to bend your wrist up.

Thanks, Rick! Wasn't paying attention to her hold - trying to get the shot. Have relayed the info, and will have her do it again. Most likely improve her targeting.

depressing the button with the thumb seems like it would be a) quicker and b) more natural to do.  i think of it like drawing a knife from a belt holster pulling straight up, knife in reverse grip.  your thumb falls naturally on the bottom of the handle.  im sure a lady pulling it out of her purse could grip the inferno canister in a similar fashion.  pushing with the index finger takes finer motor skills and more strength.  thanks for the pics Mike, and the suggestion RD.  i will definitely tell the ladies ive bought inferno for about this.

I have the pen and small can. I am afraid to carry it due to 90+ tempreatures and not being able to leave it in the car for work, as I am not allowed to have it there.

God forbid I ever get a dose of that. In the mean time, do the non-CS sprays (the aerosol brands) have the same ingredients?

They are all roughly the same composition, usuall running between 8 to 10% OC, in some form of inert carrier. Water seems to be the most common, originally they used alcohol based carrier until NYPD supposidly set someone on fire, more than likely and urban myth though. Most of the manufacturers will play with the formula a bit to get the lastest and greatest. I think LT and crew have come up with a winner with the semi-foam and adding the black pepper to it.

I got a mask of 18% OC spray from the military. If anyone has had that, is this stuff as bad as that?

If you youtube "Cold Steel" right now you will see the newest videos are around half a dozen different people getting Inferno in the face. I'll admit as much as it must suck, I chuckled a few times. Tyler, I  agree with Lynn I wouldnt want that 10 oz supersoaker sized inferno sprayed on me. Not even if I was paid in CS products lol.
