I wear several para cord bracelets on a daily basis. I have taken them apart to use them but like you said it makes you a bit sad.

If I may, I'd like to put in a plug for my friend John McCann, author of the book Build Your Own Survival Kit, and proprietor of bepreparedtosurvive.com, a great internet resource for pre-made kits and all sorts of survival goodies for making your own kits. He stocks a lot of top quality and hard-to-find components and his store is a sort of "one stop shop" for most of your wilderness survival needs. On top of this, he is a great guy--super to do business with--and very knowledgeable in this field.

Loads of useful info in there. My copy is well thumbed.

Grandpappy, I would like to extend a thank you to Mr. McCann as well. Got his book due to a thred on this forum and am quite pleased with it. His site has a few items I have a hard time finding on my own and will be ordering soon. -Joe

I like the book Build Your Own Survival Kit by John McCann and most of what he has to say. The chapter on flashlights is out of date as that is one area he could not keep up with in a book as it changes so fast. His coverage of containers is very cool. One of the things I like in my kits (I keep making them for friends) is: Pencil sharpener-Cheap,light and makes great tinder as well as sharpening sticks for all kinds of things. Also very safe to use. Small flashlight like the Fenix single AAA light. Not cheap but bright and small. Add a lithium Battery or two and cut the weight and increase the burn time. Birthday candles-the you can not blow them out kind-Great for starting fires and again small, light and cheap. Duct tape. I wind it around a card like the new pass keys you get at hotels. Good for anything. Small Bic lighter wrapped in Saran wrap to keep the water out. I could go on for days. LastBoyScout

Big fan of John McCann's book. I like the pencil sharpener idea. I may have to try that.
