Well, the knife is real - as in, it exists...but it's not a CS knife !!!

Fake as it gets; too bad it has Cold Steel branding:

As always, they have been reported to FleaBay.

It's not listed as such, but markings ("San Mai III") are visible on the ricasso.

William B

In the end we are both on the same side of this.  we both wish this sort of crap wasn't allowed.

I agree.

These folks are thieves; they steal from LT and his staff, and they short the buyer.

I just noticed that this seller has 3 fake Trailmasters for sale, along with a counterfeit Tai Pan:

I don't mind so much about the fake Strider - stealing from a thief and a liar is simply a bit of Karmic payback, IMO.

Please re-read post #5

There is NO excusing, only pointing out the Karmic repercussions of thievery.

Mickey Burger (AKA Strider) stole from everyone who purchased their knives, along with every man and woman who served this country honorably.

If anything, it sounds like YOU are excusing the rip-offs, since they are of lesser quality...it's a theft of branding/copyright and has damaging effects to CS.

Those who would own/wear fake Rolex watches often justify their purchases in a similar manner.

Chicago X send cold steel an email and the info from ebay they will take care of it with out hassle and in quick fasion as they have for me in the past when I reported these low life people also. They'll respond within a few hours just tell them where it's at and add the ebay link and anything else it does get taken care of and they appreciate every effort be it small or large in catching these people and taking them down for what they do and have done.

Thank goodness for the 'block' list.

jclayton89, I appreciate the heads-up.  I will deal with CS directly on these from now on, since some folks look for a fight everywhere.

Is the name "San Mai III" copyrighted?  I have a very nice San Mai III type knife from another maker that -is- laminated VG-1 (or VG-10) wrapped in 420 steel.  I don't think you can stop someone from using a construction method nearly a thousand years old.  But copyright laws -will- still work if the name isn't public domain.  I can't understand why some of the counter-fitters don't just change the name.  Some of the knives are pretty well made and would sell without the copyright violation.  It might be fun collecting counter-fit knives as a theme like collecting Kukris or old swords.  I'll bet you'd end up with a very big collection.

I believe so.  Anywhere I've seen "San Mai III" printed by Cold Steel (on knives, in catalogs, etc) it either has "TM", or the "R" in a circle.

I'm sure that it is trade marked. Other makers that make basically the same thing just call it a laminated blade with VG10.
The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.

I forwarded the info to CS as suggested, and received a reply today indicating that they had contacted eBay about the fakes.

Has anyone watched all the cs proof videos? Did you see the one that LT admits that he copied others designs to make products more affordable for others?

Wouldn't one consider them copies then...for arguement sake? Not that I need to argue...The products I have from CS I like and could afford so I bought them...lol After reading CS 's response to these copies I would say that it applies to the us makers & sellers and not to overseas companies....just as other US laws don't apply in other countries. Customs Border patrol would be the last line of defense for that.
