Cutlass Machete Mod Question - Tuesday, April 23, 2013 9:02 PM ( #1 )
I have the Cutlass Machete (excellent, btw) and was considering modifying the knuckle bow guard. Does anyone know how the steel reinforcement sits inside the polypropylene? Is it a flat piece of steel that lines up in the same direction as the blade, so that the thinnest edge faces outward? Or is it more like the shape of the guard itself, with a wider edge more perpendicular to the blade edge? I'm considering adding a few holes in a line down the center of the guard, lengthwise, and this would only work if the flatter width of the reinforcement steel is facing outward, and not in line with the blade itself. Hope this makes sense, and thanks in advance for any help.

It's aligned in the same direction as the blade. The blade, tang, and knuckle bow reinforcement are one single piece blanked out of sheet stock.
