Welcome to the forum roberto.  I am sure many would like to hear about your blowgun hunting.  this thread hasn't been active for a while, but I know sure the interest is just as strong as ever.

I think I might have to look into this.  Anyone take a squirrel with one?  What darts do you use for hunting?

I think there has been some mention of squirrels being taken--perhaps on another thread.  Looks like one of the new items for 2010 is going to be a 'pro model' or something.  I am looking forward to checking that out.
I have taken squirrel with field point arrows--they are incredibly hard to kill.
After one fiasco with arrows I reverted to .22s and shotgun.

I was thinking for the squirrels  right in the back yard.  They get into the bird feeders and my garden and are not too far from the house.

I have a somewhat similar problem with iguanas eating my lettuce, till now ive dispatched them with a CO2 powered rifle. I have to shoot them more than once, and i think ill get them with a blowgun. Silent, accurate and one shot.

I;m with you.  One, silent shot.  Much better than a lot of noise.

With the 5’ blowgun and the use of the Bamboo darts, I have killed many dove, the best place to hunt is in the rafters of a feed barn. When you kill one the others just fly to the other side of the barn, still well within range. I have also hunted quail, but with much less success. They are smaller and are harder to approach. As far as squirrel goes, I have had limited success with the standard broad head, even when sharpened, it didn’t do enough damage to drop the little beast quickly. The Zytel head was a huge disappointment, but I recently bought the newer razor tip darts and they are amazing squirrel killers. They have a great weight that aids in breaking and severing rib bone, and they create a massive wound channel in a heart-lung shot. They do have a few drawbacks though. If you don’t catch the animal broadside and don’t get a good knock down shot, you will have to do some climbing. On one of my first kills I was so excited I shot the squirrel through the back, and tacked him to the pecan tree he was climbing in. I had to do a bit of climbing, and in the end I used the blowgun to knock the dead animal out of the tree, wasting about 45 minutes of prime hunting time. The other thing is that the tips of the darts are very delicate. If they hit anything hard, they will roll. This ruins the dart, and it just makes extra work for when you remove the dart to clean the animal. It is a minimal annoyance but it is there none the less. I have killed a cotton tail with the standard broad head (Sharpened) with a shot to the back of the head, but that was the only time I ever had the chance. With a good hunter, I could believe that the newer razor tip dart would kill possibly up to a 40lb thin skinned animal with a good heart shot. They may run a good 20 yard before they bleed out but they would be dead.

Squirrels, rabbits, dove and quail?

Where's the mashed taters and gravy?

You're making me hungry!

As we now seem to have an actual 'Blowgun" catagory,  I thought I might as well move this, the only active blowgun thread, to it.

i really wanted one of these and was very suprised when i found out that they're illegal in the uk. especially when air rifles that shoot darts are legal and surely more deadly? all you have to do is be 18.

I think you could bring down a racoon or maybe a medium house cat if your shot placement is good. I don't recommend shooting a cat but something about that size is about the maximum size to try to take with a blow gun.

Ive seen too many small animals run through with darts, and still living for days in pain. I even seen a pic of a pigeon with a dart through its head still alive!

Makes me think twice of sticking an iguana with one of those darts now. Some of the iguanas ive seen in my vegetable patch are 4 feet long!!!
